Insulin Pump Access, for the Blind and Vision Impaired

Access Solutions is proud to announce the PumpMate™ (patent pending), a hand held remote that brings complete insulin pump access and control to the blind and vision impaired.

Blind diabetics have been asking for a solution to the insulin pump access problem for years.  The technology to do so was not readily available when the pumps were designed, and the physical placement of the pump itself on the user's body precludes using speech technology.  Diabetics wear their pumps on their belts, or under clothing; places that make a talking device hard to access.

Insulin pumps from a variety of manufacturers utilize wireless technology to communicate with other parts of their systems, such as a user's PC, Blood Glucose meter, Continuous Glucose Monitoring System, or hand held remote.  Pumpmate falls in the category of hand held remote, but uniquely with simple visual and speech menus that allow a blind diabetic to have the same insulin pump access and functionality as a sighted person.

PumpMate is currently being evaluated by blind and sighted diabetics and development is ongoing.  Access Solutions looks forward to working with insulin pump manufacturers to bring insulin pump access to the blind and visually impaired.
